30 April Trend Report

  1. MoneyHeist – KOT are crying foul after the Ministry of Health released a record of the money they have spent. KOT have questioned the expenditure and are of the opinion that costs have been inflated to allow for the theft of public funds. For example, an irregularity that has been pointed out is that the ministry used kshs 6.5M to purchase printers and yet used 9M for printing of forms. The 4M on tea and snacks has also been questioned.

2. Ruto – It emerged on twitter today that Ruto has been feeding families and children homes in Nairobi every week. The Influencers who were tweeting about this were keen to point out that Ruto’s distribution was devoid of all the PR drama that donations by other politicians had. Some KOT are also claiming that Ruto has been vindicated of the crime of being a thief because even in his absence from active government affairs, the public coffers are being emptied even more.

3. UkaidiWaMaghufuli – Tanzanian president Magufuli has been on the receiving end of ridicule from KOT. He has been stubborn in failing to take corona seriously and seems to be of the opinion that all Tanzania needs to do to beat the virus is attend church. Now Tanzania’s cases have spiked. Some KOT are predicting disaster from Corona for Tanzania just like during Kinjeketile Ngwale’s time.

4. M-Pesa – After NTV did a feature on a widow in Kisauni who cooked stones to trick her children into sleeping, well wishers sent money through her M-Pesa and it is reported that after some time, it was full and some people were unable to send her money. Also, Betika decided to send sh 5000 to about 1000 players in Kenya through M-Pesa. KOT applauded this move, saying that it was wise for the money to be be sent directly through M-Pesa because if it had gone through the government, it would have been looted. In addition, M-Pesa launched a product in partnership with Visa that will allow M-Pesa customers to transact internationally.

5. Nyeri – Nyeri continues to be in the limelight because of Mutahi Kagwe. It turns out that Nyeri residents had warned the country on Kagwe’s character immediately he was appointed. Their warnings, according to KOT, have turned out to be true. Mutahi Kagwe has become unpopular on twitter, first because of sacking the KEMRI researcher and more recently because of the alleged looting in the Ministry of Health.

6. covid-19 – KOT seem to be of the opinion that the government is first of all stealing money intended for covid-19 and that the positive cases that are announced every day are fake. Some think that we actually have way more cases and that the government has been hiding it. The recent case of a widow in Kisauni boiling stones to convince her children that she is cooking something has been contrasted with the sh4M that the Ministry of Health has used so far for tea.
