Spotlight on Dekut Tae Kwon Do Club- More Than an Art

Tae Kwon Do as a way of life

Bruce Lee, Donnie Yen, Jet Lee, Jackie Chan, Sammo Hung, Jakie Yu Wung Jing, Stephen Show, the one and only Mr. Transporter; Jason Statham, Michael Jai White, the incredible Cynthia Ruthrock, Kara Hui, Iko Uwais, Jean-Claude Van Damme, Tony Jaa, Chuck Norris, did I leave out your star? I am sorry but wait, did the names ring a bell at first? Who in his sane moments doesn’t love Jackie Chan? How he drunkenly staggers before exploding with professional kicks, superhuman stunts? Who doesn’t love the IP man? You have not watched Ong-Bak yet? How unfortunate is that? You must have missed if you have not seen how Iko Uwais who impressively plays out The Raid just so magnificently? You can’t stop yourself from loving Summo Hung, especially when he flies with kicks amid his physique, can you?

Who is your greatest martial artist? Bruce Lee? Did you know that Bruce Lee could open a cola can with his bare fingers? Could he fly with his ballistic kicks as he did on Way of the Dragon? How fast was his punch? He pushed his body to go beyond what other people could think of.
But the catch here is, is it all real? Is the thrill of kicks, punches, techniques, styles, and all that vocabulary real or hypnotic? How effective are martial arts? Can a Tae Kwon Do blackbelt walk-in Githurai in the middle of the night without having any fears for gangs and the unpredictable surprises of this place?

Have you ever wished to perform gravity-defying routines, to break metallic doors with your human legs, to climb on bamboo trees with your clawless fingers, to somersault when being fired bullets at, to jump out of speeding cars, to be a master, to master The Eagle Fist, to have a blackbelt…Don’t worry, there is only way to find out:

We are the WinnersCicle

Visit the Dkut Taekwondo Club. They are the iconic WinnersCircle. Bonded by a common interest, they work for the interest of their holistic being. Individually, yet together. Here, you will come out as the star of your world and choice. Is that a myth? Let us find out.
You have probably seen them sweat their guts down in the Old Mess, drilling deep into the intricacies of this ancient art. You have seen them on white uniforms, belts of different colors showing off their mastery.
You must have spotted them around, training hard than the teacher from the application you downloaded. You have seen them perform during important occasions, you have seen them on the school’s website, kicking harder and pushing higher. They have not only won medals but also hosted regional games at Dekut. These are the Tae Kwon Do stars.

Quick Fact: Dkut is the first school in sub-Saharan Africa to host the Kukkiwon Tae Kwon Do, is that not amazing?

So, what do they do? Throw kicks in the air and make noise around? No, that is a misguided stereotype. They train their minds. They train their hearts. They work out every fiber in the flesh comprising their whole being. They learn how to express themselves through art called Tae Kwon Do. It is a holistic course, which instills a kind of discipline your primary teacher never taught you. Tae Kwon Do brings out that fine spirit from its entrenchment so candidly and calmly.

After that?

They represent Dekut in various games. From regional to national levels, they are simply so outgoing. They have won awards all year round, and in different places, USIU, Kasarani, Dkut, just to mention but a few. How excited does having a blackbelt feel?

Nancy Njeri, who was lucky to be the influencer of the week has been in this club for long. In fact, she has won medals during WTF competitions.

Did you know….

Taekwondo is one of the most widely practiced martial arts in the world. It is one of two martial arts represented at the Olympics (judo is the other one).
As with many other martial arts, taekwondo is a combination of combat technique, self-defense, sport, exercise, entertainment, and philosophy. It developed after the end of the Japanese occupation of Korea in 1945 and quickly spread throughout the world after the Korean War, which ended in 1953.

Although there are great doctrinal and technical differences among taekwondo organizations, the art in general emphasizes kicks thrown from a mobile stance, using the leg’s greater reach and power to disable the opponent from a distance. Taekwondo training also includes a comprehensive system of blocks, punches, open-handed strikes, various take-downs or sweeps, throws, and some joint locks.

Although only sparring is contested in the Olympics, breaking and forms are also contested frequently in other competitions. All three are parts of a traditional Taekwondo curriculum, with a fourth part being Hosinsul (self-defense). Olympic style sparring consists of 3 non-stop rounds of contact with rest in between.

Taekwondo distinguishes itself from martial arts such as karate by its emphasis on kicking instead of the reliance on hand techniques of these other martial arts. Taekwondo practitioners believe that the leg is the longest and strongest weapon a martial artist has and kicks thus have the greatest potential to execute powerful strikes without successful retaliation.

Taekwondo as a sport and exercise is popular with people of both sexes and many ages. Physically, taekwondo develops strength, speed, balance, flexibility, and stamina. An example of the union of mental and physical discipline is the breaking of boards, which requires both physical mastery of the technique and the concentration to focus one’s strength.

In a life encompassed with different aspects and diversity of people, discipline, knowledge, mastery, peace, and balance are some of the elements you need to make your life inspiring, to keep the blood in your muscles running, to keep your muscles on the right track and to be physically content.
