Tech Stars Weekend At DeKUT

This was the place to pursue an idea or solve a problem that you have been thinking about and did not know where to start or whom to start with. The 54-hr Startup Weekend was the place to look for a team, create a prototype of your idea, validate it and also build a network with experienced entrepreneurs and investors from all over the world
All in one weekend!!

The Vice Chancellor DeKUT; Dr.Kioni officially opened the event on 27th, he emphasized on building and networking with investors and also teaming up with other people who have different skills and knowledge on other fields.

He also praised the good organisation of the startup weekend led by Sebastian Al-halabi, Kenneth Njihia, Muriithi Kaimoe, Wanjiru Kaburu, Sarah Machio, Peter Muchiri and Ruth Muriithi who teamed up very well to ensure that the event went on smoothly for the 54-hours

The weekend comprised of students from Dedan Kimathi University of Technology, Karatina University, Kirinyaga University and Chuka University It also had non-students from various parts of the country who were also part of the startup weekend. The event began with pitches from the participants

After pitching the ideas and voting for the startups,Only about 22 were selected out of about 48 startups presented to be on the
judging platform.It was too bad for the teams that were not selected but they had an option of joining another team. After the selection, teams were formed basing on the selected and everyone was free to join a team of his/her choice depending on the skill needed by the group. The teams worked on the startups within the time frame given; they developed good business Canvas models ,Prototypes and business plans

The participants had also one on one coaching session with professional coaches who were able to give them good head-ups of the startup they were working on. They were also informed on the current trends in business and also technology and also the future of it. The coaches were able to go through the business model canvas of each group and trained them on how make a good canvas. They also focused on the mentoring the teams
